Working with partner, Kolbrener, Inc., Carryer Consulting participated in developing a strategic market report that analyzed the current branding and positioning of this company which provides a sensitivity assay for determining the optimal chemotherapy to use on particular cancers.

Steeltown Entertainment Project

This new not-for-profit organization received a grant and hired Carryer Consulting to create its business plan. Steeltown was founded to leverage the vast network of Pittsburgh expatriates who now work in the film and entertainment industry on the East and West coasts. Steeltown aims to create a new industry in the Pittsburgh region of independent film and entertainment projects. The business plan has helped Steeltown secure several grants for organizational and project development.

Wright Therapy Products

Working with partner, Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, Carryer Consulting created a business plan for a new product intended to boost sales and profitability. Wright Therapy Products sells compression devices for several medical conditions – lymphedema, venous insufficiency and sports medicine. The company is a leader in gradient pumps and pneumatic compression.

ZelleRx Corporation

Carryer Consulting created business plans for the Series A and B funding rounds for this Chicago-based cancer therapy company. ZelleRx is developing cancer treatment products based on its proprietary natural killer cell line, NK-92. With this cell line, ZelleRx has developed universal and targeted product candidates that may be used as adjuvant and/or primary therapies for patients with various forms of cancer.

Office of Enterprise Development, University of Pittsburgh

Carryer Consulting has provided numerous services to the Office of Enterprise Development, which works with university scientists to successfully commercialize their life sciences inventions.

Specific projects for the Office of Enterprise Development include:

Wound modeling system, a Translational Research Action Committee (TRAC) award from Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Southwest Region, Innovation Works to develop a plan for a startup based on a novel software modeling system for wound management.

MIDASBio, an initiative to commercialize new technology as the basis of a specialty reference laboratory. The laboratory is bringing to market a diagnostic test for early-stage cancer detection. The first test is expected to be for ovarian cancer. This cancer is known as the silent killer because it is generally discovered in the late stages, and the vast majority of patients die of this disease because treatment options have limited success at the later stages of the disease. This project is currently being further developed and funded by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Babs Carryer operated as interim CEO of this project.

Cohera Biomedical Adhesives Inc, a spinout company from the university that is marketing a new chemically based tissue adhesive that represents a dramatic breakthrough in both critical and surgical care. The Company's flagship product, TissuGlue™, has demonstrated that it is strong, biocompatible, resorbable, and non-toxic – properties that no current tissue adhesive on the market can match. Babs Carryer wrote the business plan for first stage funding of this venture.

Educational course and curriculum development, targeted to faculty and researchers in the Schools of Health Sciences. Courses developed and taught include a series of commercialization modules:

    • How can I get Industry Interested in my Research?
    • So, You Want to Start a Company?
    • and the core technology commercialization course, “From Bench Top to Bedside, what every scientist needs to know.”

Staley Capital Advisors

Carryer Consulting has worked with this private investment management firm in its mergers and acquisitions area where it matches buyers and sellers of companies. We have created business plans and packaging for the companies seeking to be acquired.

Allegheny Container

Working closely with a team from Allegheny Container, a high-quality box manufacturer, we developed a novel marketing brochure to support their entry strategy into a new market. The company wanted to focus on quality point-of-sale merchandising. Consequently we designed a high end "interactive" full color print brochure with studio quality product photographs and text to support their mail and telephone marketing campaign.

Carryer Consulting created the business plan for this company when it was being aquired by Eagle Ventures and partners. Dawar was in a transition to position itself as a major player in the membrane switch industry (electrical touchpads). Today, Dawar is a leading provider of user interface products.

Carryer Consulting has created several business plans and marketing brochures for this firm that buys, grows and sells manufacturing companies. Eagle has an acquisition methodology which consists of investment, systems and training to take companies to their next level in sales and profitability. Dick Corporation

Carryer Consulting assisted this major construction company on marketing, business development and strategic issues. Dick is one of the top 25 construction firms in the U.S. with revenues at the time in excess of $500 million. The project entailed us leading the efforts to formulate Dick's three-year market strategies for a dynamic market environment in an industry facing considerable challenges. This process included strategic planning, in-depth market analysis, segmentation, targeting, and positioning. Within two years of this project, Dick Corporation achieved its goals of doubling its revenues to over $1 billion.

Carryer Consulting created and led a series of seminars to help PNC personnel from their electronic commerce and other computer departments to focus and develop strategies for new ventures utilizing ecommerce and web technologies. This initiative was sponsored by the Electronic Commerce Division, which was seeking a methodology for creating and implementing business plans, and developing an intrapreneurial climate for innovation.
